Travel to the middle of the Bone Wastes and you will find a large, dilapidated stone structure. Auchindoun is located inside these ruins. You will need to work your way through a series of stone corridors before you reach the Summoning Stone for the Auchindoun instances. The Summoning Stone serves the following instances: Mana Tombs, Sethekk Halls, Shadow Labyrinth, and Auchenai Crypts. Mana Tombs can be found by heading directly north from the Summoning Stone.
When you get near the Mana Tombs entrance, you will see many Consortium NPCs where you can acquire several different quests. I recommend you skip all available Consortium quests until you have earned at least Honored Reputation with Consortium by repeatedly completing the Mana Tombs instance.
After you enter Mana Tombs, you will need to successfully pull five or six groups of mobs before you can actually engage the first boss, which is Pandemonius.
Pandemonius has two abilities that all party members should know about:
Void Blast – He will cast a series of five shadow-damage blasts that will also produce a knock-back effect. Since your tank will be positioned with his or her back against a wall or other solid object throughout this entire fight, your tank is going to get hit multiple times in rapid succession from this ability. Your healers must be able to heal him or her through these blasts. For Heroic mode encounters, it is imperative that your tank wear considerable shadow resist gear. Other party members should have 100+ shadow resist gear each (for Heroic mode).
Dark Shell – When this ability is active, you will see a small, green shield (look closely while fighting him; it is difficult to spot). The party leader should immediately tell everyone to stop all DPS when Pandemonius uses Dark Shell. This includes your tank. Spells will be reflected during this time, and melee attackers will take about 1,000 points of damage for every successful hit on Pandemonius. Any damage-over-time-spells (DOTS) cast prior to his casting of Dark Shell will continue to damage him.
Proper positioning:
Near the stone tablet is a mound of dirt that is piled-up against a wall. This mound is one of two spots for tanking the boss. The other position is against the large stone table. Your tank should fight Pandemonius either on top of the mound or with his/her back against the tablet. Melee should position themselves behind the boss throughout this fight and be prepared to move away (if necessary) when he casts Void Blast. Read the rest of this entry »

Some dedicated virtual items stores sell game currencies such as , EverQuest 2 Gold, DaOC Plat, WoW Gold for many years: virtual objects are sold for real money to the tune of at least $100m a year. But the links between real and virtual economies are now becoming far more elaborate.
Last month, a “Project Entropia” player paid the game’s creators $26,500 for an island in the game’s virtual world. (He hopes to recoup the money through mining and selling plots to other players.) This month, an Ultima Online player set up a scheme to let players donate items and currency to raise money for tsunami relief. Currency exchanges even allow gamers to move funds from one game to another.
Not everyone approves: some games ban the sale of game items, a few encourage it, but most turn a blind eye. But the sale of the “Project Entropia” island, and the popularity of “World of Warcraft”, a game launched in November which bans the sale of in-game items, highlight an emerging split, says Edward Castronova, an expert on virtual economies at Indiana University. “Project Entropia” and its sort are intended to be realistic alternative realities, often with a strong libertarian and free-trade bent. “World of Warcraft” and other similar games, in contrast, are fantasies with a strong sense of fair play in which status must be earned as part of a rags-to-riches storyline–so trade in game items is deemed to be against the rules.
Such bans are impossible to enforce. But “World of Warcraft” is designed to make trading less appealing, in two ways. The first is by improving the game design. If the early stages of a game are tedious, players are more inclined to skip them by buying rather than earning in-game items. “World of Warcraft” is fun right from the start, which seems to have reduced demand for in-game items on eBay. Trading can also be a symptom of mismanagement of the in-game economy. Inflation is rampant in most games, due to the convention that killing a monster yields a monetary reward: rising prices then fuel real-world trading. But newer games have more control over the money supply, which seems to reduce such trading. Read the rest of this entry »

The first month that blizzard had the game live was sketchy at best. The realm servers were constantly being taken down for maintenance. The player base was upset with the state of the game. Problems will be inherent in an undertaking as large as WOW. To those on the affected servers, the response time from Blizzard was abysmal. Some servers were down for days. Blizzard made amends by giving free play time to the players with characters on those servers. Since then, blizzard has picked up their service, and the only significant time the servers have problems is the day or so that a new patch comes out.
The raid content of the game on release was limited to The Molten Core and Onyxia. For the first three months that was plenty, the most avid WOW players were still busy leveling and getting good gear from the high level five man instances. The top guilds, however, would have these encounters mastered in short order once they got into them. After two months of raiding nothing but these encounters they became tedious. Many players lacking faith in Blizzard grew bored with the game. Blackwing Lair was released a few months ago, and has proven to be a sufficient challenge. Ahn’Qiraj was just released. Those finished with Blackwing Lair will be looking forward to the new challenges it presents. As long as Blizzard can keep up with the progression of best raiding group, no player can complain about lack of activity at level 60.
The honor system and battlegrounds released half a year after the game hit shelves brought more structure to Player versus Player interaction (PvP) by ranking and rewarding players for killing other players close to their own level. While it doesn’t discourage ‘ganking,’ killing a player much lower in level than the attacker, it provides purpose to fighting the opposing faction.
At the core of every good video game is a high quality user interface. It’s the way the player interacts with the game environment. WOW provided a fine interface at the start, but as the game progressed, it became clear certain things were lacking. Thankfully, Blizzard supported Custom User Interfaces by allowing ‘add-ons’ to be incorporated easily into their game. Using these custom interfaces, players can get exactly what they need out of the game to play to the maximum efficiency. The best of the interfaces have been incorporated into WOW’s base user interface. Read the rest of this entry »
